Auckland

Lucas 2016

During my trip to Auckland which I talked about previously I made a quick stop off in Pukekohe to visit my friend Libby and her son Lucas. Libby and I first met in intermediate. We then reconnected while I was studying through a mutual friend. I would drive up to Bulls or she would come down to Wellington and during this time we made lots of fun and mischievous memories that we still laugh about to this very day!

It's been awesome keeping in touch with Libby years on from those days and being a part of her new journey. Lucas is full of joy and adventure! We ran around the windy beach and went to the park on this visit. Take a look!

Can't wait for the next catch up!

Riley 2016

I recently made a trip up to Auckland to visit my school friend Monique. We have kept in good contact over the years and when we do get to catch up I always have the best of times. I met Monique at Corelli School of Arts in Browns Bay. I was boarding with a homestay family but I spent most weekends at Monique's house eating peanut butter on toast and dancing like a robot in the lounge (also something we would do most days after school). It always felt like a place I could call home. It feels good going back to visit Monique and her family as it reminds me of a time in my life that I am forever grateful for.

6 years later.. there is a cool new edition to our friendship, her daughter Riley who you may remember me blogging about previously. Riley seems so grown up since I saw her last, a reminder of how quickly time goes! It was nice spending a few days with them both. I made sure the trip didn't feel rushed, it was the perfect amount of time but of course I felt sad leaving. We made a trip to the Auckland museum, the Winter Gardens and the park not far from their new house. Take a look at some shots of Riley out and about exploring.

Always looking forward to seeing them both! Hopefully sooner rather than later! There is talk of a trip to my parents farm early next year. It will be the perfect place for Riley to enjoy and for us to get out of the city. Fingers crossed!

February Holiday

Tom and I recently went away on holiday up north. We left Wellington once I finished work, unfortunately hit lots of traffic but finally made it home to my parents place in South Taranaki just after sunset.

The next morning we set off early and made our way up the West Coast to Auckland, Browns Bay. Here we stayed the night and in the morning we were off to Tutukaka for our friends wedding (invited as guests not photographers).

We made sure we left with plenty of time, however were unlucky to hit stand still traffic on the highway. Eventually we decided to turn around and take an alternative route in order to make it to the wedding on time. This alternative route took us right along the East Coast of Northland past beautiful beaches that looked like a scene on the back of a post card. At this point we were starting to panic about missing the wedding so there was no time to stop and take photos! We arrived in Tutukaka with 15 minutes to spare, we got changed in the car park and made our way to where everyone was seated. We spent the night in Tutukaka celebrating with friends.

The next morning was another early start as we needed to get back to Auckland for a joint birthday party, Monny's 21st and her daughter Riley's 1st birthday. Take a look at the photos from their party.

Riley is growing up so fast! Next time I see her she will most likely be walking! Take a look at my images of her at 9 months old here.

We then needed to make our way back down the island so we left Auckland the next day and drove to Hamilton to stay with friends. The first thing we did when we arrived in Hamilton was go for a swim. This was the first time that it felt like we had actually stopped to relax on this holiday. We spent the night watching a cheesy/trashy film and eating pizza with our friends. All in a days work!

We decided that we needed an extra night away before driving home so after leaving Hamilton we stopped off in Motuoapa near Taupo. Swimming in Lake Taupo on that hot summers day was the best thing we did. I've never felt so relaxed in my life!

After a good nights sleep it was then time to travel home, continuing on State Highway 1.

So it didn't quite finish there.. we did make one last stop in Paekakariki. The beach was too inviting.

I worked out that during these 6 days we traveled a total of over 1800kms, 22 hours worth of driving! Big congratulations to my old car Carina!

In conclusion, Tom and I had a lovely time away. It's always a pleasure seeing old friends and visiting the place where I have so many great memories. Congratulations to Patrycja and Cam on their marriage and happy Birthday to my friends! Thank you for inviting us along to your special occasions, we are so glad to have been a part of it.
